Termite damage
|

Termites are destructive to homes and buildings by chewing through crucial, supporting layers of wood. By feeding on wood and hiding within walls and floors, they can silently destroy your property without evident signs of damage. Consequently, it can be difficult to discover their presence in your home. As a result, homeowners are advised to regularly check their homes, specifically floors, and walls, for termites before the situation escalates. What are some common signs of termites?

Swarming termites: The termite workers that are actually doing the damage are rarely seen. Termites usually get attention in the spring when the winged reproductives of the colony swarm. When they emerge inside a structure, they will be attracted to light, and the wings they shed will be found around windows and doors.

Mud Tubes: Another sign of termites around your home is earthen shelter tubes or mud tunnels that the termites build over the surface of the foundation to reach the wood. These mud tubes are typically 1/4 to 1/2 inches wide. Similar mud spots may also appear around plumbing areas such as bathrooms or kitchens.

Flying ants: People frequently mistake termites for flying ants. However, ants look wasp-like with thin waists, whereas termites have thick waists, straight antennae, and four wings of equal size.

Hollow–sounding timber: Damaged wood will sound hollow when gently tapped with a screwdriver. If significate damage occurs, the wood may simply break from contact.
