In our homes, subterranean termites typically feed on structural wood under floors, behind walls, and above ceilings. Termites are most likely to infest wood near roofs, windows, doors, water pipes, and drains.

Termites are not pests that people regularly see. That is not because they aren't common in our region; it is because they spend their lives either in the ground or inside a piece of wood. The exception to that rule is a termite swarm.

Termite swarms occur when large numbers of mature, winged reproductive termites "swarm" from a nest to find a mate and start a new colony. In San Antonio, termite swarms usually occur between February and April. If you spot termite swarmers around your property or find piles of their discarded wings, immediately reach out for help.
